[Photos] ECWA church donates food items to Kaduna Muslims

The Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) Gospel Church, Tudun Nupawa, Kaduna, yesterday donated foodstuff to six Muslim communities in Kaduna as assistance for less privileged persons. The items include: bags of sugar, millet, maize, and beans. Donating the items, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu, the Senior Pastor of the church, said the donation was to assist less privileged Muslims with whom they had been living together over the years. Nmadu said the gesture was part of efforts to re-establish the long-standing relationship between the Muslim and Christian communities in the area, especially in view of the current security challenges. Quote ``People of other communities will learn from what happened today. We grew up together without any differences, our parents taught us to live together but along the line the relationship went sour. ``We are here to let the people know that we are one people in spite of our different religions, we love everyone. “If God wanted us to be Muslims, all of us would have been Muslims, and if God wanted us to be Christians, He would have created all us Christians. ``We are here so that the World will know that we are of different religions but are living together as a people and not as Muslims and Christians,`` the pastor said. Receiving the items in his palace, Sarkin Dutse, Alhaji Shu’aibu Balarabe, said that the Emir of Zazzau had advised the people to live in peace with one another. Balarabe said there was no compulsion in religion and advised his subjects to live in peace together in spite of their different faiths and to be partners in peace building. He said it was their duty to protect all the churches and the mosques in the area. ``We have been living together in peace but unfortunately, the crises experienced in the state seem to be dividing us. We know that all the crises were not motivated by religion,`` he said. The Imam of Tudun Nupawa Mosque, Malam Attahiru Liman, said most of the youths, who indulged in violence, neither attended church services nor observed regular Muslim daily prayers.

Ramadan: 20 Arrested For Refusing To Fast In Kano

Not less than 20 Muslims have been arrested by Kano State Hisbah Board for deliberately refusing to fast during the ongoing Ramadan period. Speaking to reporters yesterday, the Acting Commander General of the board, Barrister Labahani Usman, said the arrested persons would be held in detention for three days until they learn how to fast. Usman added that some of the offenders, who included women, had been arrested in various “hot spots” across the metropolis by the plain cloth personnel of the Hisbah command. Personnel of the Hisbah Board have been conducting raids around Kano city aimed at arresting Muslims who intentionally refused to observe fasting since the month of Ramadan commenced almost 20days ago.

BREAKING: Unexploded bomb discovered in another church in Kogi

A bomb has been discovered at the Revival Church in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state. Our correspondent in the state says that gunshots could also be heard in the town. This development comes a day after the attack on the Deeper Life Church in Okene in which 19 people were killed, including the Church’s Pastor. The Church which is located at Eika Adagu in Okehi Local Government Area is now surrounded by officers of the Nigeria Police Force and soldiers as family members of the deceased are coming around in tears, to identify their bodies. It is still unclear how many people were wounded in the attack Monday night as a number of the church members sustained various degrees of injuries. According to the Military spokesman, Lt. Col. Gabriel Olorunyomi, the gunmen surrounded the church in the middle of a worship service and opened fire with AK-47 assault rifles on the worshippers. Soldiers searched for gunmen through the night, but have made no arrests as of this morning. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesperson Yushau Shuaib said his agency has dispatched rescuers to the area. Anglican Primate condemns attack The Primate of the Anglican Church, Reverend Nicholas Okoh has condemned yesterday’s attack on a church in Okene, Kogi state which claimed the lives of sixteen people. Reverend Okoh who spoke with journalists in Abuja said that securing places of worship should not be left in the hands of the church alone. He called on government to expedite action to secure the lives of its citizenry. Responding to the call for the resignation of the president by members of the Boko Haram sect, the Anglican Primate said that the sect members are not responsible for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s election and should therefore not call for his resignation.

World’s First Wooden Car Faster than a Porsche or a Lamborghini

The world’s first wooden supercar has been unveiled – and it’s faster than a Porsche or a Lamborghini. The ‘Splinter’ car can turn out a whopping 700bhp from its twin supercharged, 4.6litre V8 engine – almost 300bhp more than a Porsche 911. And with a top speed of a staggering 240mph, it will leave the Porsche or even the brand new Lamborghini Revanton trailing in its wake. American Joe Harmon designed the car which is made almost entirely of wood. The car was said to have been designed as his graduate project at the Industrial Design course – North Carolina State University. Amazingly, the chassis, body, wheels and a large proportion of suspension are also made of wood, and it is super fast too – even more than a Porsche or a Lamborghini. Other specifications of the car include: Engine: 4.3liter turbocharged V8 Horsepower: 600bhp Weight: 2500lb Dimensions: Length 174.5in Width 82.0in Height 42.0in Wheelbase 105.0in The entire car, which is made from a combination of maple, plywood and MDF, weighs just 1,134kg – some 240kg less than the super lightweight Porsche. The eco-friendly two seater, which is fitted with a six-speed, manual gearbox, can sprint from 0 to 60mph in just over three seconds! SAD! Parents Kill Their Daughter For Refusing Her "Arranged" Husband

LONDON (AP) — The girl was murdered by her Pakistani parents for her Western ways. And it was her little sister who bravely told jurors how her mother and father suffocated the 17-year-old with a plastic bag — gripping testimony that led to her parents' murder conviction on Friday. Justice Roderick Evans sentenced Iftikhar, 52, and Farzana Ahmed, 49, to life in prison for killing their daughter, Shafilea, in 2003. The couple — first cousins from the Pakistani village of Uttam — were ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years in prison. "She was being squeezed between two cultures — the culture and way of life that she saw around her and wanted to embrace, and the culture and way of life you wanted to impose on her," Evans said during the sentencing at the Chester Crown Court in northwest England. In Britain, more than 25 women have been killed in so-called "honor killings" in the past decade. Families have sometimes lashed out at their children on the belief that they have brought their household shame by becoming too westernized or by refusing a marriage. Shafilea was only 10 when she began to rebel against her parents' strict rules, according to prosecutor Andrew Edis. The young girl would hide make-up, false nails and western clothes at school, changing into conservative clothes before her parents picked her up. But it was the last year of her life that proved to be the most traumatic. During the trial that began in May, jurors heard from Shafilea's younger sister, Alesha, who said she witnessed the murder when she was 12. After an argument about Shafilea's dress, her parents pushed her down on a couch, stuffed a thin white plastic bag into her mouth and held their hands over her mouth and nose until she died, Alesha testified. As she was struggling, her mother said, "just finish it here," according to Alesha's testimony. Although Shafilea's other siblings contradicted the testimony, the last-minute emergence of a diary convinced jurors. The diary belonged to a friend of one of Shafilea's other sisters, Mev. In it, the friend relays conversations she had with the sister about the night Shafilea died — details that supported Alesha's testimony. "The strong message goes out and should be very clear: If you engage in honor killings — if you engage in forced marriages — you will be caught and brought to justice," said Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Manchester-based Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim organization. When Shafilea became a teenager, she became interested in boys — something that spurred punishment from her parents. School officials alerted social services in October 2002 after Shafilea came to school with injuries to her face. That same month, Shafilea told a social worker that she was to be married in Pakistan in February 2003. In January 2003, she ran away, telling friends her parents would not leave her alone. She eventually returned. In February 2003, she ran away again and pleaded with British authorities to allow her to move out of her parents' house because, she said, they were abusive and trying to force her into an arranged marriage. Some of Shafilea's own words also proved compelling to jurors. In the application form to move out, she said she had suffered from regular domestic violence from the age of 15. "One parent would hold me whilst the other hit me," she said. Her father snatched her off the streets, however, in the same month as the application. He bundled her into a car and took her to Pakistan against her will, Alesha said. In protest, Shafilea drank bleach and was brought back to Britain in May 2003. She spent eight weeks in the hospital trying to recover from damage done to her throat. Even in her weakened and desperate state, Shafilea's parents were relentless. One night, her parents complained she was wearing a T-shirt and wasn't properly covered up, according to Alesha. The younger sister said Shafilea struggled and struggled as her parents held her down. Alesha described that after the attack, her siblings ran upstairs and she watched as her father carried Shafilea's body to the car wrapped in a blanket. She was reported missing shortly after, with her parents making a teary-eyed media appeal for information leading to their daughter. But police were suspicious — so much so that they bugged the house. Shafilea's decomposed remains were eventually discovered in the River Kent in Cumbria in February 2004, but it wasn't until 2010 that Alesha provided the key testimony. Last year, the British government's Forced Marriage Unit investigated more than 1,400 cases of forced marriages, most of which occur in Muslim communities. Britain is home to more than 1.8 million Muslims, most from Pakistani roots.

2012 WEC Results Released, 80% Fail English + Maths

Giving out a total breakdown of the report. The Zonal Co-ordinator, Mr Alozie N.U decided to share and revealed the full statictics of the 2012/2013 Waec examination of her candidates. Now, out of these 310. 077 candidates, here are their gender statictics: 168,835 are Males: while 141,242 are Females: candidates who registered for the waec examination. WITHHELD RESULTS: The results of 51,876 candidates, representing 16. 73% of candidates are being withheld by the waec Board, based on various reports, mostly for these candidates alleged involvement in examination malpractice. While another Statistics shows that a Whooping Number of 250,487 candidates representing 80. 78% have 2 credits and above. While 217,161candidates, representing 70. 03 of the total 2012 WAEC candidates, have three credits and above. Yet, another statictics shows that 180,480 candidates, which represented 58. 20% of this year’s candidates, have four credits and above in their results. Further Stats shows that 141,167 candidates representing 45. 52% of candidates who registered for this year’s examination, obtained the following: five (5) credits and above. While 99,750 candidates representing 32. 16%, did obtained six credits and above. While on the basis of University admission qualifications, The Zonal Co-ordinator, Mr Alozie shed more light on this: A total of 133,507 candidates representing 43. 06% obtained credit and above in English Language. While a total of 151,569 candidates representing 48. 88% of candidates, has obtained credit and above in Mathematics. While 62,295 candidates, representing 20. 04%, obtained credits in the following subjects: English language, Mathematics and at least three other Subjects. A whooping sum total of 33 blind candidates sat for this year’s examination, and from this figure, 4 candidates, representing (12. 12%), obtained credits in five subjects. Which include the following: English Language. Important Notice: Blind candidates are exempted from taking mathematics and science practicals in WASSCE diets. That is the total stats of candidates performance in the 2012/2013 Waec Examination. Candidates who sat for the 2012/2013 waec examination can now check their results at the waec official website.

BOKO WONDER: Boko Haram Has Helicopter; Arrested Suspect Confessed.

"THE FEAR OF BOKO HARAM THEY SAY, IS THE BEGINNING OF TERROR" A member of the Islamic terror group, boko haram residing in Maiduguri that was arrested by the JTF yesterday disclosed that the terror sect have a helicopter. The sect member claimed the helicopter was brought from Libya after Khadafi was killed and much of his weapons went to Al-Qaida, and he said more was coming from Somalia and Mali. This is the second time the group is claiming to be having a heavy weapon, it occurred in 2009, when the group claim it’s having a tank which it collected from the Nigerian army. The main problem is that the helicopter is the same colour with the Nigerian army’s helicopter. The arrested boko haram member claimed the helicopter may soon be used in an operation. Michael Jackson?s tiger dies of lung cancer

Thriller and Michael JacksonThriller, the famous pet tiger which belonged to the late Michael Jackson has died. The 13-year-old animal that lived at Jackson’s Neverland died of lung cancer at the Tippi Hedren‘s wildlife preserve near Los Angeles on June 11. An autopsy was performed and the tiger was cremated. Hedren says Thriller and brother Sabu were born in 1998 and lived with Jackson until 2006 when Jackson left Neverland. Jackson’s veterinarian asked Hedren to take the cats at her Shambala Preserve in Acton. She says a $79,000 compound was built on a lake and Thriller had a great life with Sabu. Despite Jackson’s love of animals, Hedren says he never called to check on the tigers and never sent any money to help pay for their care.

In 2010, he sold off his family’s stake in the company to Russia’s VimpelCom for $6.5 billion. He subsequently made his foray into politics, founding the Free Egyptians party in April 2011 to promote free markets and a secular platform.

Wiese is the chairman and largest individual shareholder of low-price supermarket chain Shoprite, Africa’s largest retailer. His other assets include Lanzerac Manor & Winery, a five-star hotel that produces its own wine, and a private game reserve in the Kalahari.

Today, his $5 billion (market cap) African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) has interests in platinum, nickel, chrome, iron, manganese, coal, copper and gold. Motsepe owns over 41% of the company. Othman Benjelloun, $2.3 billion

His father was a major shareholder in a small Moroccan insurance company. He took over in 1988 and built it into RMA Watanya, one of Morocco’s largest insurance companies. He used RMA Watanya as a springboard to diversify into banking. Today, his $4 billion (market capitalization) BMCE Bank has operations in more than a dozen countries. Through his holding company Groupe FinanceCom, he also has significant interests in telecom, airlines and Information technology.


Mohamed Mansour, $1.7 billion

Along with his two brothers, Mohammed Mansour runs the world’s largest GM dealership. Among other assets, the Mansour Group also owns the largest supermarket chain in Egypt, the country’s second largest real estate developer, Palm Hills and the Philip Morris franchise in Egypt.


Anas Sefrioui, $1.6 billion

In 1998, the then 31 year-old Anas Sefrioui founded a small real estate development company which bought out small, dilapidated residential structures, renovated then flipped for profit. But he hit it big nearly a decade later when Morocco’s late King Hassan II awarded him an extremely lucrative contract to build 20,000 units of government subsidized houses for the masses. In 2005, he won another $1 billion state contract to build more housing units. His real estate company, Douja Promotion Groupe Addoha went public in 2006. He owns over 60% of the company’s preferred stock.
