SECURITY: Maku pleads for confidence in JONATHAN.

Information minister
Labaran Maku has asked
Nigerians to renew their
confidence in
government and their
support for President Goodluck
Jonathan, insisting federal
government needs the
cooperation of Nigerians to rid
the country of violence and
terrorism.
His message comes a week after
a bomb attack targeting St
Theresa’s Catholic Church in
Madalla area of Niger state, just
outside the federal capital Abuja,
left dozens dead and scores
wounded.
The number of dead has since
risen to about 43 in days, as
more survivors die in hospital in
one of the deadliest attacks on a
place of worship.
In the wake of the attack, for
which the group Boko Haram
claimed responsibility, churches
mounted heavy security on New
Year’s Eve in hopes of forestalling
possible attacks.
Speaking during a New Year’s Eve
church service in Kafanchan, the
minister called them “drawbacks”
that befell the country in 2011.
