Meet Nigeria’s Youngest Lecturer

At 22, Miss Adejoke Ogunlana is probably one of Nigeria’s youngest lecturers. She speaks on her challenges as a young lecturer and what government should do to drive the nation’s education sector.

Call it teaching or lecturing, only a few Nigerian youths are likely to celebrate a teaching or lecturing appointment. The general belief is that teaching is not on the list of lucrative jobs in the country. In fact many see it as a job you opt for when efforts at getting better jobs fail.

But interestingly, this is not the case with 22-year-old Adejoke Ogunlana, who teaches Chemistry at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

A 2009 graduate of Chemistry from the same university, Ogunlana settled for teaching while in school. So it was easy for her to accept an automatic teaching employment the university offered her, having bagged a first class.

Boko Haram Threatens To Unsettle Govt And Judiciary If Al Mustapha is hanged

Senate queries Jonathan, Sambo’s N1.3bn food, furniture allowance

Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs has queried the provision of N1.3bn in the 2012 budget allocation, to the State House for food, entertainment and furniture.
The committee described as outrageous the provision which also included the purchase of computers after Presidency officials presented the details of their budget to the committee on Monday.

It wondered why a whopping N500m would be allocated for the purchase of foodstuff alone.
It also raised the alarm over a separate allocation of N293m for refreshment in spite of the provision for food items.
The committee also flayed the provision of N265m for the procurement of computers, which had been captured in the 2011 budget and the N295m for furniture.

Man chokes wife to death for giving birth to third baby girl

A man  allegedly choked his wife to death after she gave birth to a baby girl for the third time.

30-year-old Storay was  choked to death by her husband and mother-in-law after she gave birth to the third girl.

The murder took place in a remote village in Khanabad district of Kunduz province, which is located in northern Afghanistan. Storay’s mother-in-law has been arrested but her husband has fled and the Police in northern Afghanistan are looking for him.

Despite the fall of the Taliban more than a decade ago, violence and abuse of women continues to be a serious problem in Afghanistan. Human rights activists have criticized Afghan authorities for their failure to protect women, and the issue was highlighted again by two recent cases.

Wh.......at: Fulani herdsman chops off vulcaniser’s hand

Pandemonium gripped Akure, the Ondo State capital recently when a Fulani herdsman allegedly chopped off the right hand of a vulcaniser, Mr. Deji Adeleye in Akure during a misunderstanding. The incident, which occurred at Ayedun area of Akure recently threw the entire community into confusion as people feared possible attack from other Fulani herdsmen grazing their cows in the area.

Daily Sun gathered that the victim, a vulcaniser in Ayedun quarters and some carwash owners had warned the herdsmen several times to stop grazing their cows in their business premises. It was learnt that the herdsmen turned deaf ears and as a deliberate way of causing trouble the herdsmen changed their movement to the place from twice in a week to daily routine. Apparently angered by attitude displayed by the herdsmen after several warnings, Adeleye and other people chased the cows out of the area.

The herdsman, it was gathered who did not show any sign of annoyance when his cows was chased away later came back when many people had left the area and chopped off Adeleye’s hand with a sword. It was gathered that the Fulani herdsman wanted to behead Adeleye but the vulcaniser escaped by whickers as he used his right hand to block the herdsman’s sword.

An eyewitness and a relation to Adeleye, Olorunlogbon Ajayi quoted the victim to have said:  “The herdsman moved stealthily towards me and drew out his sword with the intention to behead me. I raised up my hand to protect my head, but had my hand chopped off.” The victim was rushed to a private hospital while the herdsman ran away when some youths around the area wanted to lynch him.

Efforts made by our correspondent to speak with Adeleye where he was receiving treatment proved abortive as security operatives did not allow visitors to gain access to him except few of his family members. The security agents, in a bid to prevent the victim from speaking with the newsmen moved him from the hospital to another private hospital within the Gbogi axis and only doctors and a nurse were allowed to have access to the victim’s room while the security operatives were giving the medical officers close monitoring so that they would not use any device to take the photograph of Adeleye.

Also efforts made to interview the wife of the victim when our correspondent approached the woman for comment proved abortive as the woman first denied being the victim’s wife but after much pressure she admitted being his wife but declined comment on the incident. It was further gathered that the herdsman had fled the area and all efforts made by the police and other security operatives to track him down had not yielded any positive result.
The state government had directed the security agents to manage the situation so that it would not degenerate into inter-tribal clash.

The victim, it was reliably gathered had also been promised N5 million as a compensation by some politicians in the state to start a new life after living the hospital.

Daring? Boko Haram Says Next Target Is Sokoto

Spokesperson of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnati Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, popularlyknown as Boko Haram, Abul-Qaga, has told journalists in a telephone exchange in Kano last night that Sokoto State will be their next target following arrest and imprisonment of their members.

Abul-Qaga said “You should avoid replication of the big attack in Kano State. This is an open letter to the Emir of Sokoto (Sultan of Sokoto), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and the Acting Governor of Sokoto State. Before we visited Kano, we had written an open letter to senior citizens there on the imperative of releasing our members but nobody cared to talk. Indeed, we sent three warnings to Kano before we struck.”

“What happened in Kano will be inevitable in Sokoto unless you (Sultan and others) intervene and ensure the immediate and unconditional release of our members who were specifically arrested in the city of Sokoto on Thursday. There is gross inconsistency in all the proclamations of the Nigerian leader. Our members are being trailed and killed on one hand, and on the other hand, some people are telling us to surrender our arms and come out. This is impossible.”

Na Wa!!!!!! N7b missing from immigration's acct - Comptroller General

Members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Interior were stunned yesterday by the confession of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mrs. Rose Uzoma, on how in 2011, N10.3 billion was generated by the body, but N3.4 billion was remitted to the federation account.

The Immigration boss could not provide satisfactory answer to the two committees when she was asked how the balance of N7 billion was expended.

Appearing before the committee to defend the 2012 fiscal budget, the Immigration boss explained that the revenue generated comprises of N8,192,717,842.77 and off-shore earnings of $13,378,206 (N2,140,512,320).

This is just as the Interior Minister, Mr. Abba Moro, announced that despite the presidential broadcast of reducing federal overheads and ministers’ salaries by 10 and 25 per cent respectively, no circular to such directive has been issued.

Speaking on the issuance of passports, the Immigration Comptroller-General put a unit production cost of Nigerian International Passport booklet at N4,900, but sold to the citizens at N8,750 leaving a profit margin of N3,850 out of which N1,250 is paid as technology fees to “e-revenue collection partners”.

"The remaining N2,600 was the remittance made to the federation account, while in the year ending 2011, a total of 722,327 Nigerian International Passports were issued," she disclosed.

Apparently dissatisfied with her presentation, the panel co-chairmen, Senator Atiku Bagudu and Umar Bature from the House of Representatives called for “comprehensive analysis of the construction of passports in Nigeria and every cost embedded in the gross earnings and report back on Monday.

Also defending its ministry's budget before the committee, Moro bemoaned the transfer of certain government agencies which he described as the hub of internal security to another ministry, noting that the transfer made it difficult for them to operate satisfactorily.

He informed the joint committee that although the Federal Government was studying the situation, he lamented that the removal of Police Affairs and Customs Service from the Interior Ministry had limited their internal security assignment.

He, therefore, canvassed for adequate funding to enable them procure certain instruments that would enhance border surveillance and further stressed: “At the moment, there are no defined border spots such as plaza or posts to determine immigration and emigration of persons and goods from the country."

8 years Old Girl Raped and Murdered By Father's Friend

Our correspondent learnt that the girl’s younger brother, Obedient, was present in the house and he overheard Atagha asking her to go out with him so that he could buy her something.

The boy said he warned his sister not to go out since it was late.

When it was 9.30 pm, the girl’s family began to look for her. Francis said they were worried since she had never stayed out late at night and nobody in the house had sent her on errand.

Later, he asked Obedient whether he knew the whereabouts of the girl and was informed that Atagha had taken her out.

Francis said, “When we did not see her throughout the night, my friends, including my tenants and I went to Atagha’s house to ask him about my daughter’s whereabouts.

“He denied ever seeing the girl that day. He told us that we had come to incur his wrath for something he had no knowledge of. But when he noticed that we were very serious, he ran away and we did not see him for many days.

“When we took the matter to his family, he appeared and confessed that he did it and that we should not let any other person hear about the matter.”

Francis had quickly informed the police about the matter immediately and Atagha was arrested.

He said, “I only did my bit by informing the police about the alleged killer of my daughter. Because I am poor, many people seem to take advantage of my situation and treat me badly.

“I don’t know if the police will be able to avenge my daughter’s death. My daughter was easy-going, obedient and loving. I could not imagine how somebody – not even my own friend–could do this type of thing to me. The world is wicked. This is an abominable offence.”

Francis said that his daughter’s corpse was still lying in the bush where Atagha allegedly hacked her to death. Part of the body, especially the belly, had begun to decompose. But the face was still recognisable. He said the corpse was left there as evidence and that they would only bury the girl once the police gave them the go-ahead to do so.

One of the tenants and a close friend to Francis, who gave his name as Innocent, described the slain girl as too precious to lose. He said the victim could cook any type of food and when somebody sent her on errand, she would promptly go without any argument.

He said, “This is not the type of girl anybody can lose. Great injustice has been done to the little girl. We hope the government will intervene in this matter.”

The spokesman for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Mr. Onyekaozuru Orji, confirmed the incident and said the Police had arrested the alleged killer.

Orji said the the matter was under investigation and if it was established that Atagha actually raped and murdered the girl, he would be charged to court for manslaughter.

President calls Boko-Haram for Dialogue!!!

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan challenged violent Islamist sect Boko Haram on Thursday to identify themselves and state clearly their demands as a basis for talks, while acknowledging that military confrontation alone will not end their insurgency.

In an interview with Reuters at the presidential villa in the capital Abuja, Jonathan also said there was no doubt that Boko Haram had links with other jihadist groups outside Nigeria.

"If they clearly identify themselves now and say this is the reason why we are resisting, this is the reason why we are confronting government or this is the reason why we destroy some innocent people and their properties ... then there will be a basis for dialogue," Jonathan said.

"We will dialogue, let us know your problems and we will solve your problem but if they don't identify themselves, who will you dialogue with?"

But he cautioned that the crisis would be much harder to resolve than the one in the oil rich southeastern Niger Delta, which was largely defused in 2009 under an amnesty he helped broker.

I'm a womanizer? I don't even know that I am womanize" - 2face Idibia

"I didn't get this from my father. My father is not a womaniser. That I know. I have never caught my father with another woman. He is very faithful to my mother. I am also not a womanizer. Yes it happens that I have more women in my life. It is the price I have to pay for being a star. I didn't plan to have more than one woman in my life. I didn't plan my life to be the way it is now but no regrets. I love my kids. Right now, I have three women in my life who have five kids for me (and expecting a 6th one) and I sincerely don't know how I'm able to cope with three women. Fela had over two dozen wives but I'm not Fela. I can never be another Fela. I have three women but I'm saying a big NO to Fela's kind of polygamy. I don't even know what these women see in me (Oh yeah, Tuface? lol). I used to look into the mirror sometimes and wonder it is that they see in me." - 2face tells E Express when they asked him about womanizing and regrets

So he doesn't know why women want him? Dear Tuface, you're good looking, you're talented, you're famous, you're humble, you have a great heart and you're rich. What more?

((((BOMB)))) Explosion rocks minister’s house

An explosion ripped through the house of the Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe, located at Ogbobagbene in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State in the early hours of Tuesday destroying properties worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the explosion was masterminded by gunmen who attempted to forcefully enter the home of the minister but were disappointed because the doors were bullet proof.
Sources disclosed that heavily armed youths invaded Elder Orubebe’s community at about 1.00 a.m. amid sporadic shootings to scare away villagers before proceeding to his palatial house.
According to a source, the gunmen attempted to gain access into the house by shooting at the door panels without success because they were bullet proof.
“They, therefore, resorted to the use of dynamite which they used to dismantle the doors to gain entry into the house. They came purposely to loot because of the belief that the minister stacked the house with money.
“Because they were disappointed, they resorted to looting anything they could lay their hands on,” the source said.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Charles Muka, could not be reached for comment as his phone was switched off but a senior security officer confirmed the incident.

Pathetic ! 25 Years Old Man Rapes 10 Years Old Girl

A 25-year-old bricklayer, Sarafa Sule of No 6 Ita-Amodu area of Ilorin, was yesterday remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.

The accused, who was arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrates’ court on a one-count charge of rape, allegedly committed the offence on Jan. 4.
The charge sheet stated that the accused was arrested by the police following a complaint by one Mrs Latifat Tijani, also of Ita-Amodu area, that her daughter (name withheld) was raped.

``My daughter came to my shop crying and complained that the accused sent her to buy tom-tom for him and forced her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her,’’ Tijani said.

Police preliminary investigation revealed that the accused sexually assaulted the victim.

However, counsel to the accused, Mr Ibrahim Ahmed, urged the court to grant

his client bail, and said that denying him bail would amount to pre-trial punishment.

He argued that the law presumed the accused innocent until proven otherwise.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Chris Koragee, objected to the bail application on grounds that investigation into the case was ongoing.

Kuwaiti Prince, Abdullah Al-Sabah Converts Into Christianity

Kuwaiti royal prince declares conversion to Christianity: "if they kill me because of it, then I will appear before Jesus Christ"

Why would Abdullah al-Sabah think he might be murdered for exercising his freedom of conscience? After all, Muslim spokesmen such as Salam al-Marayati, M. Cherif Bassiouni, and Ali Eteraz (among many others) have assured us that Islam has no death penalty for apostasy.

Unfortunately, in doing so they fool credulous Westerners, but they disagree with Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, who said, "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him" (Bukhari 9.84.57). And all the schools of Islamic law still teach that death is the proper penalty for apostates.

In a sane world, this would be an international human rights issue, with calls from the UN to protect apostates from Islam. But this is not a sane world.

Why we attacked kano - Boko Haram

Why We Attacked Kano - Boko
Haram
MAIDUGURI—THE Boko Haram
sect has given reasons for its
weekend attacks, which led to
the killing of about 162 people in
Kano State, saying it was to
avenge the persecution of its
members.
Spokesman of the group, Abul
Qaqa, made this known in a
telephone interview with
newsmen in Maiduguri,
yesterday.
Claiming responsibility for the
attacks and multiple bombings
on police stations, State Security
Services, SSS, and passport office
buildings in Kano metropolis,
Qaga said: “Last night’s (Friday)
attacks and bombings of Kano
city followed our warnings in the
second week of December,
2011.”
‘We warned Kano stakeholders’
Besides, Qaqa also referred
reporters to an e-mail message
in which Imam Muhammad
Abubakar Shekau, Spiritual Head
of the sect, threatened that:
“Unless urgent steps are taken,
the group will launch endless
and violent attacks on Kano and
its environs because of arbitrary
arrest and persecution of his
members.”
Vanguard learnt that in the said
e-mail, Shekau said the group
had written an open letter to the
people of Kano, including the
Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero;
Governor Musa Kwankwaso,
Alhaji Aminu Dantata and Khalifa
Sheikh Isiaka Rabiu on recent
happenings in the ancient city.
Shekau revealed that but for the
intervention of some prominent
scholars in Kano, his group
would have made the city
ungovernable a long time ago.
Alleges persecution
Qaqa said: “The message here is
that everybody knows that a lot
of our people were killed in Kano
State, especially in Wudil town.
We had perfected plans to take
revenge but some notable
scholars intervened by pleading
with us.
“They also assured that our
members would nevear be
persecuted again and we took
them by their words.
Unfortunately, however, about
five months ago, security
agencies began trailing and
arresting our members who are
carrying out their legitimate
businesses, alleging that they are
all thieves and armed robbers.
“Again, we perfected plans to
attack the city of Kano but the
scholars pleaded that we should
not. They advised that we should
write a formal letter of complaint
to some notable people. We
agreed and sent letters to the
Emir of Kano, Wamban Kano, Dan
Masanin Kano and the governor
of Kano State.
“We also posted the open letter
on the internet, but nothing was
done to stop the persecution of
our members.
“Recently, security agencies
launched a fresh onslaught on
some of our members in Kano
city in which even women and
children were not spared. Many
houses were raided and a
pregnant woman was
manhandled.
‘We respected Kano’
“Some of our members were
tortured with electric shock. All
these things happened in Kano, a
city that we hold in high esteem.
“We have varied opinions about
Kano, including the option of
launching endless campaign of
violence, but the scholars that
have been talking to us are still
persuading us to tarry a while.
“We are compelled to write this
open letter so that the world will
know what is happening.”

Oyedepo sends God’s judgment missiles into Boko Haram camp

Following the unabated spate of
bombings in the country, the
Senior Pastor of Living Faith
Church Worldwide (a.k.a
Winners Chapel), Bishop David
Oyedepo, has released God's
judgement missiles into the
camp of Boko Haram.
In his sermon on Sunday at
Canaanland, Ota, he
said:"Everyone connected with
the escape of the Boko Haram
kingpin, would soon face the
wrath of God.
He declared his readiness to
lead a revolution against
jihadists, who continue to
terrorise Nigerians and threaten
the unity the country through
their activities
"God has anointed me to lead a
revolution against jihadists.
Enough is enough of their
activities," he said
Speaking further, Bishop
Oyedepo said, "if it is the wish
of God for the country to break
up. God, break it now."
He also warned that, "If the
church should arise, Nigeria will
no more be a nation."

U.S Army prepares for Nigeria's possible break-up

There are strong indications
that the United States of
America, USA, may be gearing
up for a possible balkanisation
of the country following
developments in the last few
years.
This indication is contained in a
publication credited to
NEWSRESCUE in America, where
accounts of an article written by
Director of the African Security
Research Project in Washington,
DC and Guest Columnist of
AllAfrica Global Media, Mr. Daniel
Volman and speakers in an
AFRICOM conference held at Fort
McNair were given.
It would be recalled that in
2005, the US predicted that
Nigeria would cease to be a
nation state in 2015 in view of
threats posed by continued
ethno-religious crisis over the
years. Similarly, the United States
military had, in May 2008,
conducted a war games test
called Unified Quest 2008, to
ascertain how its military might
respond to a war in parts of
Africa with a mention of Nigeria.
Also, the question of how to
handle possible splits between
factions within the Nigerian
government was tested with a
plan by the Americans to send
about 20,000 troops to secure
and take over the oil-rich South
while the North would be
turned into an Arab aligned,
possibly terrorist enclave.
Recent developments in the
polity, namely the post-election
violence up country, the
activities of militants in the
South and the recent activities
of the Islamic Boko Haram sect
in a spate of terrorism-like
bomb attacks may have laid
strong credence to the claim.
Indications are that the US will
favour a disintegration of the
country given Nigeria’s not too
distant past romance with
countries considered not to be
allies of the self-acclaimed world
super power.
The Nigerian government had
not long ago signed deals with
Russia and Iran for major
resource, military and power
(Nuclear generation) mutual
ventures. This alliance did not
go down well with the US as
these nations are considered
perpetual enemies. In addition,
Nigeria has been promoting
development, not by serving US
interest but by cooperation’s
with so-called third world
Nations like Brazil.
The US has been known to be at
the center of important
breakups in the past. Countries
like Vietnam and Korea had the
US play a major skewed role,
and when these Nations divided
into North and South, the US
stationed its troops at the
border to defend usually the
Southern territory, and the
Northern usually became a
rejected, isolated rudiment.
It would also be recalled that in
the 2010 budget, the US had
made provision for the
expansion of the operations of
United States Africa Command
(AFRICOM), which will provide
increased security assistance to
repressive regimes in Nigeria,
Niger, Chad, and the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC) and key
US allies such as Ethiopia, Kenya,
Djibouti, Rwanda and Uganda.
This is even as in 2009, Nigeria’s
late President, Umaru Musa
Yar’Adua, clearly rejected the
installation of US AFRICOM
military command in Nigeria,
probably sensing that the
Pentagon had planned to
establish a new military
command in Africa.

2 Explosions Rock Goodluck Jonathan's Town, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State

Yenagoa – The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Bayelsa has confirmed that two explosions rocked parts of Yenagoa at about midnight on Friday.

The JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Timothy Antigha, said on Saturday that there were dynamite explosions in certain parts of the capital city, but there were no casualties.
Section of Tombia bridge linking university town of Amassoma damaged in the Friday night explosion
The task force, he said, was collaborating with other security agencies in the ongoing investigation into the matter.

Antigha advised the residents of Yenagoa to remain calm and pursue their legitimate businesses lawfully, “as the JTF is working in tandem with other security agencies to forestall a recurrence”.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hilary Opara, also confirmed the blasts, saying that some miscreants might be trying to create the impression that there was insecurity in Bayelsa because Vice-President Namadi Sambo was expected in Bayelsa on Monday.

One of the scenes of the explosions is a colonial bridge constructed by the Shell Petroleum Development Company at the Tombia roundabout area.

The dynamite planted on the bridge exploded, creating a crater on one side of it.

Residents said that the aim of the masterminds of the blast had been defeated if it was intended to cut off the bridge.

This morning, anti-riot policemen and soldiers were seen taking charge.

Also at the scene of the other blast opposite the Government House gate, a Toyota Corolla car with registration number AH 674 KMK, laden with explosives suspected to be dynamites, exploded and got burnt but did not record any fatalities.

Reacting to the explosions, the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Doifie Ola, said “Gov. Timipre Sylva has just been informed of two explosions that rocked parts of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, late Friday night.

“Details of the incident are still sketchy, but the Government of Bayelsa State condemns in the strongest possible terms any attempt to return the state to the dark days of insecurity.

“The administration places high premium on peace and security, and has invested so much to attain the peace and quiet that currently pervade the state.

“If there is anything that both friends and foes of the current administration agree on, it is the clear fact that Bayelsa State has since the inception of the Sylva-led government emerged from the darkness of insecurity into the marvelous light of peace and stability.

“It will be most callous of anyone to try to shatter this peace.”

The spokesman quoted the governor as advising the peaceful people of Yenagoa “to remain calm, but strong and vigilant as we work together to overcome these challenges”. (NAN)

Multiple Bomb Blasts Rock Kano, SSS Office and Environs

KANO, Nigeria — An explosion ripped through a zonal police headquarters Friday in the largest city in Nigeria’s Muslim north, causing unknown casualties, witnesses said.

The blast occurred just after 5 p.m. in the city of Kano, the second largest city in Nigeria. Police kept Associated Press reporters away from the building, which had its roof removed and blown out in the explosion.

Authorities could not be immediately reached for comment to say what caused the blast or say if there had been any injuries. An AP reporter could see a plume of smoke also rising from another neighborhood in the city.

Another AP reporter said the explosion was powerful enough to shake his car several miles (kilometers) away.

The explosion occurred as Nigeria faces increasing attacks from a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram. Boko Haram has been blamed for killing at least 76 people since the start of the year, according to an AP count. The sect killed at least 510 people last year in its growing sectarian struggle against Nigeria’s weak central

Boko Haram bombs Kano, kill Channels TV Enenche Akogwu

TERRORISTS suspected to be members of dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, bombed the headquarters of Nigeria Police Force, Kano State, killing scores, including Channels Television correspondent, Enenche Akogwu and injuring many others.
They also unleashed terror on the State Security Services and Immigration Headquarters in the city killing and injuring people.
Terrorists, who engaged the policemen there in a gun duel stormed the state police command headquarters in Bompai.
Security sources said the gunmen had earlier attacked the Immigrations office at Farm Centre.
The attack at the police headquarters, according to report, was carried out by a suicide bomber driving a Honda Civic car.
The bomber, according to the report, succeeded in breaking through the gates of the building and rammed the car into the wall of a vocational centre in which wives of police officer learn sewing.
The building, which was completely destroyed is adjacent to the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 1.
At least, 30 others suffering from varying degrees of injuries have been taken to different hospitals across the state.
A witness, Garba Danazumi Lere, said he saw the bodies of three police officers and a local journalist after blast at the police zonal headquarters.
A second blast went off at the SSS headquarters along Sardauna Crescent after a first blast caused the security agents to cordon off the immediate vicinity of their office.
There have also been reports of an explosion at a motor park along New Road in Sabon Gari area and another police station at Yarakwa along Zaria road.
These added to the number of explosions and gun attacks that rocked the city yesterday evening.
Casualty figures from these sites are not yet known.
At the SSS headquarters, it was said that one of the attackers was killed and a second arrested in an earlier attack.
According to an orange seller who was selling oranges close to the Immigration office when the attack on that office started, the attackers were two in number.
‘I was peeling my oranges when all of a sudden two men walked to the building and began shooting at the immigration personnel there. I saw at least three of them fall before I ran for cover,’ he narrated.
It was after the shooting that the explosions began, he said.
A resident in Tarauni described a very thick dark cloud of smoke in the sky visible from his location to our reporter, most likely coming from the explosion at Ungwar Uku.
Immigrations spokesman, Mohammed Kanoma, said at least three officials were killed, as well as an unknown number of civilians in the attack.
The fresh explosions are happening two days after the alleged mastermind of the Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Church in Madalla, in Suleja escaped from police custody.
The BBC Hausa-language service claimed that a spokesman for the Boko Haram sect claimed the Friday's attacks across Kano, where at least four bombs exploded

EDO STATE, oshiomhole abolish school fees in Edo state

In the broadcast, Governor Oshiomhole said the measures included abolishment of all fees and levies as well as PTA (levy) in all secondary schools for both indigenes and non-indigenes in the state.

According to him, the measure was in addition to the sustenance of free education at both primary and junior secondary schools.

“My administration has abolished all fees and levies, including PTA levies, in all public senior secondary schools for both indigenes and residents.  We will in addition sustain our existing policy of absolutely free and compulsory education at the primary and junior secondary school levels,” he said.

Additionally, he also announced a reduction in school fees at the state-owned Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma, for regular undergraduates by N15,000 per student across board, while part-time students’ fees was reduced by N5,000 per student.

The governor explained that the university would not lose any revenue as a result of the reduction, as the state government would pay the bulk difference to the university along with the monthly subvention of N210 million.

Besides, he further announced a 50-per-cent subsidy on transport for
primary and secondary school students in the state, provided such pupils and students were in their schools uniforms, just as he promised that the state government would increase the fleet of buses of the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS).

On health, Oshiomhole announced free health care for senior citizens from age 70 and above in all state-owned hospitals; while those from 60 years and above are entitled to free eye test and eye glasses.

Landlord Stabs Tenant's Wife For Denying Him Sex

In the latest incident, Mrs. Ajani
said in the open court that the
landlord claimed that he has
right over his tenants including
their wives and therefore
wanted to have sex with her at
all costs.
Adisa was alleged to have
sneaked into his brother’s
house at about 8 p.m. and
attempted to have sex with his
wife. The incident happened
when the woman’s husband
was away at work.
The shocked Fatimo shouted
and raised an alarm which
attracted neighbours.
This angered Adisa who
reportedly took a cutlas and cut
Fatima in the forehead and right
hand before she was rescued by
their neighbours.
Their neighbours said that Adia
claimed that even if he wanted
to sleep with her, there was no
reason why she should shout
and disgrace him in his own
house.
In the first case involving Biola,
the landlord, who hails from
Kwara State, was granted bail
on self recognition and was
asked to report to court until he
fulfils his bail conditions.
He did not show up as the court
ordered and also failed to meet
the bail conditions.
The court was stunned when
the same landlord was brought
to the same court for the same
offence.
He pleaded not guilty to the
charge but could not explain
how Fatima sustained injuries in
the encounter with him.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oladejo
Balogun, objected to his bail on
the condition that he had
abused the bail granted him in
the previous charge against
him.
Balogun also urged the court to
remand him in prison custody
because he seemed to derive
pleasure in harassing and
threatening his tenants,
especially the women around
him.
The court considered the
application and ruled that
though the offence he allegedly
committed was a bailable one,
he had shown disrespect to the
court by bolting away when he
was first arraigned and was
granted bail.
The court ordered that he
should be remanded in prison
custody without an option of
bail pending when he shows
remorse.
The matter was adjourned till 13
February 2012 for mention.

Boko Haram: 6 alleged Suleja bombers granted N24m bail

ABUJA—A FEDERAL High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, granted bail to the six alleged masterminds of the bomb explosion that killed 16 persons at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Suleja, Niger State, on the eve of the April 16 presidential election.

The State Security Services, SSS, had alleged that the six accused persons, Shuaibu Abubakar, a.k.a Abu Quatada; Salisu Ahmed, Umar Babagana Umar, Mohammed Ali, Musa Adam and Umar Ibrahim, were the king-pins of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in Niger State.

Specifically, the security agency in a 5-count criminal charge it recommended against them, maintained that its undercover investigations revealed that the accused persons participated in various terrorist attacks that killed 28 persons between March and July. However, since September 30, 2011, when the accused persons were docked before the high court, they attended their trial from the Kuje prisons.

Meanwhile, following separate bail applications they filed before the court asking to be released on bail pending the hearing and determination of the substantive charges against them, trial Justice Aliyu Bilikisu, yesterday, granted them bail in the sum of N2m each with two sureties in like sum.

Stipulating conditions that must be met by the alleged Boko Haram members, Justice Aliyu said their intended surety must be a grade level 12 civil servant, adding that the person must be an employee of the Federal Government or the Federal Capital Territory Authority, FCTA. The said surety according to the court must not only be resident in Abuja, but should also be screened by the prosecution with a view to verifying his status.

The prosecution had alleged that the six accused persons, “between June 4 and July 12, (both dates inclusive) at various locations in Suleja, Niger state, Azare, Nasarawa state and the FCT, did engage in an act of terrorism by encouraging through training persons now at large, the use of arms and ammunition, and the preparation, planting and detonation of improvised explosive devices for the purpose of terrorism and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 15 (2) of EFCC Act 2004 and punishable under the same section of the Act.”

It maintained that they were the persons that bombed a village, Dakna, in Bwari, Abuja, on May 23; an incident it said resulted in the death of three Peace Officers as well as, detonated an improvised explosive device at a political rally in Suleja which resulted in the death of three persons too.

If convicted, the offence for which the accused persons are answering to, attracts a punishment of life imprisonment.

Reports claim Boko Haram bomber, Kabir Sokoto, rearrested

An unconfirmed report has it that fleeing suspected Boko Haram bomber, Kabir Sokoto, has been rearrested at the Nigeria-Chad border.

Rumours in Abuja and a number of posts on Twitter said he was caught in unclear circumstances.

However, the spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Olusola Amore, said he had not been briefed.

He promised to issue a statement if the story was found to be true.

However, some bloggers on Twitter expressed doubts that the real suspect was caught, especially as no picture of the alleged bomber has ever been released by the police.

Sokoto, who is suspected to have masterminded the Christams Day 2011 bomb blast at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State, escaped from a police van last week while he was being taken to his residence for a search.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on Wednesday reporttedly given the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, 24 hours to produce the suspect or be sacked.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Caleb Olubolade, told newsmen after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday that Ringim had been queried over the suspect’s escape.

A number of senior police officers, including the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Mr. Zakari Biu, have been reportedly placed under house arrest and suspended for involvement in the incident.

More details later.

OH BOY......from every perspective, i think this IG of Police and his crew knows something....smh

Married man stabs girlfriend to death , then stabs himself

I thought we’d seen the end of these gruesome domestic violence related deaths with the passing of 2011 but I guess not.

In Mafoluku Oshodi, one Kabiru Ogunlana has been arrested by the Lagos State police command on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend Isiwatu Ajayi, to death. According to Mr. Samuel Jinadu, the spokesman of the command, the suspect also attempted to commit suicide immediately after the death of the lady.

According to the reports, on the day of the incident, Ogunlana reportedly went along with his wife to confront Ajayi at her grandmother’s house at 12, Olalubi Street after which an argument ensued.
According to an eyewitness:

“Ogunlana came with his wife to confront Ajayi. Ajayi turned her back and an argument ensued between them. Before I knew what was happening, Ogunlana had brought out a double-edged knife and stabbed Ajayi. He stabbed her repeatedly,” she said.

In an attempt to stop him from his gruesome act, by trying to get the knife away from him, three other people also got stabbed.

“After those three got injured trying to save Ajayi, everybody became afraid to go near him. Ogunlana stabbed Ajayi repeatedly in the neck, thighs, and chest,” she said.

He then attempted to escape but residents chased and caught him.

“We all ran after him but when he realised that we were about to catch up with him, he stabbed himself and collapsed. We thought he had died. However, while all that was happening, his wife escaped,” a youth in the neighbourhood said.

A cousin of the deceased, who did not disclose her name, said, “I was in the front of the house when neighbours raised the alarm. Immediately, I went upstairs to inform our grandmother and we went to the backyard where she was stabbed.

“We decided to rush her to hospital since she was still breathing. But before we got to the hospital, she died because she had lost so much blood.”

An aunt of the 25-year-old deceased, who spoke to our correspondent amid tears, said Ajayi’s death was painful because she was the only surviving child of her mother.

She said, “Isiwatu (Ajayi) lost her mother at the age of seven and was brought up by her grandparents.

“Her grandfather just died four weeks ago and her grandmother is still mourning. It’s too sad. She even had a three-year-old child. I don’t know why Ogunlana would commit such a hideous act.”

Sympathisers who came in droves to condole with the family of the deceased, rained curses on Ogunlana and asked police to ensure that justice was done.

Kabiru is currently being treated at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

He should get well, be tried and then hanged!

Gunmen Attack Daddy Showkey...Again!

PM news is reporting that Daddy Showkey has been attacked again by people suspected to be hired assassins, barely a year after gunmen stormed his Alagbole home killing one of his aides.
From PM News...
Showkey was attacked on Tuesday by suspected hired assassins near a petrol station on Agidinbgbi, Road, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
Narrating his ordeal, the Ajegunle Soldier said he was on his way to the petrol station when he noticed that two men on a motorcycle were riding behind him
This is getting serious o! Continue reading...

“On getting to the petrol station, I joined the queue to buy some fuel, and suddenly a young man appeared beside me and informed me that my vehicle (a Toyota Landrover LR3), had a flat tyre. Though I suspected foul play , I decided to come down and fulfill all righteousness.

“But immediately I got down from the vehicle one of the men said, sewo niyen, meaning: ‘you are the one’, and shot at me twice.

Showkey added: “When the shots missed me, I engaged him in a fight and his partner came to his aid and opened fire on me again, which also did not hit me.

“They later managed to escape. While I was being attacked, motorists who were at the station to buy fuel all fled when they heard the gunshots,” the musician stated.

He later reported the incident at Alausa Police Station. He suspected that the two men who had trailed him on the motorcycle actually carried out the attack.

The Ajegunle Soldier told P.M.NEWS that he was surprised that some people would want him dead.

“I’m not involved in any shady business, I am a musician and I do other businesses outside Nigeria. I know say God dey,” he said.

Subsidy Corruption: Nigeria Pays For 24m Litres of Unaccounted Fuel Per Day

The House of Representatives
Ad Hoc Committee on fuel
subsidy regime yesterday
learnt that Nigerians have
been paying for 24million litres
of petrol that were smuggled
to neighbouring countries on a
daily basis.
Quote
Summary
This was revealed when the
management of the Petroleum
Products Pricing and Regulatory
Agency (PPPRA) and the
Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC) appeared
before the Farouk Lawan-led
committee.
PPPRA Executive Secretary
Reginald Stanley said the
payment and smuggling have
been going on since 2006.
According to the agency’s
figures, while Nigeria imports
59 million litres of fuel on a daily
basis, only 35 million litres are
consumed in the country.
The Federal Government paid
N649 billion subsidy on excess
imported petrol in 2011, House
of Representatives ad-hoc
committee investigating the
subsidy regime was told
yesterday in Abuja.
The revelation contradicted
statistics given by Petroleum
Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke,
who told the panel on Tuesday
that the average daily
consumption of petrol in Nigeria
was 35 million litres.
Stanley told the MPs that records
available to him showed that the
total daily import of petrol was
59 million litres thereby leaving
a huge difference of 24 million
litres. The new figures bring the
annual over importation of
petrol to 8.76 billion litres.
When computed side-by-side
with the regulated price of N65
per litre which obtained in
2011, Nigeria might have spent
N649.3 billion as subsidies on
excess petrol.
“You told us that subsidies were
paid based on 59 million litres
daily consumption while the
actual daily consumption is 35
million litres, leaving the gap of
24 million litres which is paid
for as subsidy but not utilised by
Nigerians.

Shocking! Nigeria To Buy 2 More Presidential Jets, To Make a Total of 10 Jets

From my investigations, I don't
think the leadership in Nigeria is
ready to tackle corruption, if the
President and executive is
actually serious about this, the
presidency will not include the
purchase of two aircrafts in
addition to the eight which he
already has in his fleet.
“One of the items of
expenditure in the current
budget is the purchase of two
more aircraft to bring the
presidential fleet to over 10.
What does the President need
a fleet of aircraft for?
“How can Nigerians make
sacrifices if the leaders are
unwilling to sacrifice their
exhubitant lifestyle? In any case,
how many aircraft has the
Queen of England?
“The British Prime Minister
does not have any jet, he uses
the British Airways. President
Barack Obama pays for his
food (unless when hosting a
state banquet) and even pays
rent on his official residence.”
It was around may of last year
that Nigeria’s N7Bn Presidential
Jet was Banned From Flying
Worldwide. That is almost 70
days after the new N7.65bn
presidential jet, Falcon 7X,
touched down at the Nnamdi
Azikiwe International Airport,
Abuja, from the manufacturer’s
factory in France, Dassault
Aviation, France European
authorities have banned the jet
from flying in Europe and other
parts of the world over safety
issues.

Shocking! Big Brother Contestant Raped on Live TV Show

A housemate on Brazil's
version of Big Brother has been
raped live on TV, it has been
alleged. Police today confirmed
they had begun an investigation
and carried out a search of the
studios in Rio de Janeiro, where
the popular reality show is
being filmed.
Viewers were shocked in the
early hours of Sunday to watch
contestant Daniel Echaniz 31,
apparently force himself on 23-
year-old student Monique Amin,
who had passed out drunk after
a boozy party.
Night cameras fimed Echaniz,
a male model, get into the bed
where Ms Amin was sleeping
before appearing to have sex
with her under the covers.
Throughout the incident the
female contestant appeared
unconscious.
The next morning Ms Amin
was asked about the incident in
the diary room, and appeared to
know little of what had
happened.
As the scandal began to
engulf the show, one of Brazil's
most watched TV programmes,
police officers arrived at the
house and interviewed Ms Amin
for three hours, before taking
her away for a rape
examination, according to
sources.
Daniel Echaniz, who is
allegedly shown raping his
drunken and dazed costar,
Monique Amin, has been
forced to leave the house. He
was supposedly escorted off
by officers. That must be the
worse way ever to leave the
Big Brother house.

Man Accused Of Witchcraft Hacked To Death By Relatives

An eyewitness, who preferred
anonymity, said the deceased
was riding on a motorcycle
when he saw some men at
Oyoku Ubighi, drinking and
eating dog meat at a joint.
Mfon, deceased
The eyewitness explained that
the men jumped inside a vehicle
immediately they sighted him
and chased the deceased.
He said, “We saw Mfon riding on
a motorcycle and almost all the
men that were drinking left
immediately to close him. They
followed him and when they got
to a desolate area, hit him with
their vehicle.
“As he tried to get up and run,
people around the area, who
thought it was an accident,
rushed to the scene to rescue
him.
“But no fewer than five persons
got out of the vehicle, with axes
and cutlasses and hacked the
deceased. They shot into the air
sporadically to scare the crowd,
and took the body away to an
unknown destination.”
Also, a bicycle rider, who also
craved anonymity, corroborated
the eyewitness' account.
He added that as he was
running to the scene to rescue
the deceased, he saw some men
coming out of a white Volvo car
with no number plate.
He said, “When I saw them, I
was afraid and quickly
retreated. In the process of
killing Mfon, I heard one of them
say, 'You use your witchcraft
power to kill my mother. I
warned you if the woman died,
you too would die. And let us
see if your witchcraft will be
able to save you.'
“I held my breath. When they
finished cutting the deceased
up, they took the body away,
and nobody could trace them
anymore.”
The wife of the deceased, Ikwo,
said her husband was going to
ask Etim how far he had gone
with the aluminium pulpit he
was making for the church.
She said from what she learnt,
when her husband was
returning home around 5pm at
Mbokpu Oyoima, a vehicle was
trailing him but he didn't notice
it.
She said she learnt her husband
was killed at a desolate area,
opposite a church at Oyoku
Ibighi, in Urue Offong/Oruko
LGA.
She said her husband had
abandoned home to live with
friends following repeated
threat messages by his relations.
She said, “All along they had
been sending threat messages
to the extent that a Deacon in a
church, summoned my husband
and advised him to avoid some
of his relations because of the
threats.
“My husband had on two
occasions been mercilessly
beaten by his own people and
some cult men in the village.
When I reported the matter to
the police who came to my
husband's rescue, his relations
blamed me and fined me one
she-goat and 10 bottles of
locally-made gin for insulting
them by calling the police.
“They blamed my husband for
the sickness of her sister and
said if the woman should die,
my husband would also be
killed. And so, they carried out
their threat.”
Ikwo said when she reported
the matter to the police in the
area, they asked what she
expected them to do after the
man had been killed.
When contacted, the Police
Public Relations Officer, Mr.
Onyekaozuru Orji, said the
police were unaware of the
incident but would do
everything within their
constitutional power to bring all
the culprits to book.

IG Of Police May Be Sacked Over Escape Of Boko Haram Bomber

Kabir Sokoto, the alleged
mastermind, escaped from
police custody 24 hours after he
had been arrested by the police
during a commando-style raid at
the Borno State Governor’s
lodge in Abuja.
In the aftermath of the suspect’s
dramatic escape, many
Nigerians have described it as a
“national embarrassment,” and
called for the sack of Ringim.
Already, on the prompting of
President Goodluck Jonathan,
the Minister of Police Affairs,
Caleb Olubolade, has issued a
query to the IGP, asking the
police boss to explain within 24
hours the circumstances
surrounding the escape. The
query also asked Ringim to
show why he should not be
punished for negligence since
the ultimate responsibility to
keep the escapee was his.
The development came as the
National Security Adviser, Gen.
Owoye Azazi (retd.), described
the escape of Sokoto as a
drawback to the anti-terrorism
fight.
“This is a regrettable drawback
on our efforts,” Azazi said.
In an SMS sent to one of our
correspondents on Tuesday
night, Azazi said that President
Goodluck Jonathan would want
to know what happened. He
said the incident could portray
the government as unserious
with its anti-terrorism war.
Azazi said, “This is a regrettable
drawback on our efforts. What it
means (is that) government
Could be seen differently.”
Olubolade on Wednesday
confirmed that he had queried
Ringim, saying the IGP as the
number one police officer had
the responsibility to ensure that
the high profile suspect was
secure.
“If he (the IGP) is found guilty of
complicity, he himself would
have to account for his
mistakes,” the minister told
State House Correspondents at
the end of the weekly Federal
Executive Council meeting in
Abuja. The minister came out of
the Executive Chamber looking
disturbed.
When he was asked whether
the IGP could be sacked over the
matter, he said, “Yes, anybody
(could), including me.”
He also said he had ordered that
the Commissioner of Police,
Zakari Biu, who was suspended
over the escape be detained.
He said, “From the ministry, I
have directed the IG to carry out
full investigations and even at a
higher level above that one,
there will be another
investigation to ascertain what
led to the suspect’s escape.”
“I have also directed that the
officers and the other personnel
involved should be detained
immediately. You would have
seen in the newspapers that the
Commissioner of Police has
been suspended. In fact,
beyond that, I have ordered that
he be placed under arrest.
“If somebody has erred in his
responsibility, the outcome of
the investigation will prove that.
What is important is that
whatever step we are going to
take as a result of this neglect,
we have to take it immediately.”
Olubolade was asked if the
suspect’s escape was a
confirmation of the President’s
position that members of Boko
Haram had infiltrated his
government and security
agencies. He replied, “I cannot
confirm that statement. What is
important is that the suspect is
amiss and all steps must be
taken to re-arrest him.
While that is pending, the
officers involved, those who
conducted the search, must be
detained so that the outcome of
the investigation will lead to
whatever punishment will be
given.”
